Is therapy for me?

Therapy is a tool to give patients a better understanding of their own emotions and reactions. It addresses mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Therapy can be used as a communication tool, to promote self-esteem, and to take on new perspectives. Each person seeks out therapy for their own reasons. Therapeutic needs can range from needing a sounding board in their personal growth to working through psychological pain from childhood trauma.

It’s never too early or too late to get help. Therapy can be an effective treatment for a variety of issues, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Body image issues

  • Low self-esteem

  • Difficulty regulating emotions

  • Struggles with interpersonal relationships

  • Anger issues

  • Financial, career, and academic stress

  • Recovery from trauma

  • Issues with sex, intimacy, and sexuality

  • Unexpected life transitions

  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm

  • Rebuilding after grief and loss

  • Breaking habits/building new habits

  • Working through childhood or new trauma in a safe place

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy consists of weekly (or to the needs of the client) appointments that are approximately 50 minutes. Depending on the needs of each client, therapy can be short term or long term. I work closely with each client to create treatment plans that best match their individual goals.

I am also certified in EMDR. I offer this alongside my regular talk therapy or it’s own set of treatments. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an trauma-based therapy that helps individuals heal from deep psychologial wounds and/or distressing life events. Whether you’re facing past trauma, anxiety, or persistent negative beliefs, EMDR can help you reprocess painful memories and reduce emotional distress. These sessions are available both in-person and virtually, providing you with flexibility and comfort as you work through difficult experiences at your own pace.

Couples Therapy (Gottman-Informed)

Couples Therapy consists of weekly or biweekly sessions that are 50-90 minutes long. I often recommend longer sessions for couples due to the the multiple perspectives needing sufficient time. Our couples sessions are designed to help you and your partner build (or rebuild) a strong foundation of trust, communication, and mutual respect. I like the Gottman method because it works to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

Goals are created by treating both people as a unit which allows for transparency and connection building. I will work with the unit in order to facilitate healthy communication and to identify harmful patterns of interaction in the relationship. Whether you're looking to strengthen your relationship or work through challenges, our approach is compassionate, culturally aware, and tailored to meet your unique needs as a couple.

Therapy Intensives (1.5-4 hours)

I offer therapy intensives that allow us to get more done in a shorter period of time. I find that 90 minute or 2 hour sessions can sometimes allow for a more natural exploration of issues, particularly at the front end of starting therapy. It can be helpful not to have hard stop times and allow for the session to end when it feels natural. These are available by request for in person, virtual, or outdoor for both individual and couples therapy.
